Welcome to

Life Education
Kāpiti / Horowhenua

Our Mission:

Life Education teaches personal, social and health education to the children of New Zealand. For more than 35 years, we have been New Zealand’s leading provider of wellbeing education. All Life Ed educators are fully-registered teachers.

Our Kāpiti/Horowhenua region includes schools and kura from Paekākāriki in the south through to Foxton Beach, Ōpiki and Tokomaru in the north.

Our Healthy Harold programme assists primary and intermediate schools with the teaching of the Health Curriculum, focusing on the following strands: Identity and Resilience; Relationships and Community; Human Biology; Substances; and Food and Nutrition.

Within these strands, topics include: Feelings/Emotions; Peer Pressure; Conflict Resolution; Resilience; Stress Management; Change; Personal Identity/Reputation/Self Worth; Leadership and Teamwork; Self-Efficacy/Assertiveness; Decision Making; Online Safety; Anatomy; Pubertal Change; The Effects of Drugs and Vaping; Balanced Diet; Food Sources/Packaging, and more!

Our Healthy Harold Mobile Classroom arrives at each and every school/kura, providing a unique, all-encompassing learning experience. Our classroom is purpose-built to teach our topics, with lighting, music, video and customised resources.

Our Educator:

Phoebe Edwards is an experienced, registered teacher with over 20 years in early childhood education across the lower North Island. She is passionate about creating learning experiences that spark curiosity, inspire confidence, and remind every child that they belong. Phoebe believes all tamariki deserve equal opportunities to thrive, and loves creating spaces where each child feels seen, celebrated, and empowered to be exactly who they are.

For Phoebe, becoming a Life Education Educator feels like coming full circle. She still remembers the excitement of visiting Harold as a child and leaving each session full of wonder and new ideas. Now, she has the privilege of creating those same memorable experiences for tamariki across Kāpiti–Horowhenua, working alongside kaiako and communities to make learning meaningful, relevant, and fun.

Returning to this role is also a homecoming. Having grown up in Ōtaki, Phoebe is proud to be bringing her mahi back to the community that helped shape her. After teaching throughout the wider Wellington region and Hawke’s Bay, she and her husband are now raising their three tamariki back where it all began.

Phoebe is known for her warm, energetic approach and her ability to build genuine connections with children and adults alike. She believes learning should be engaging, playful, and filled with moments of magic—because those are the moments children remember long after the lesson has ended.

“What I love most about Life Education is the opportunity to ignite curiosity and empower tamariki to understand themselves, their wellbeing, and the incredible potential they each have. Every child brings something unique to the world, and it’s a privilege to help them discover that.”

Today’s Challenges for Tamariki:

The mental health and wellbeing of tamariki shape their success in life. Unfortunately young people in
New Zealand have poorer wellbeing than those in most OECD countries, ranking 35th of 38 on overall
child wellbeing outcomes. This is why Life Education Trust exists.

Our Approach:

Gone are the days of predetermined modules.
Instead, Life Education now custom-designs its lessons in response to the unique needs of schools and their students.
Our planning process involves collaboration with schools to ensure the most relevant topics are chosen from our list of 48 ‘Big Questions’.
Schools select syndicate-wide topics, or topics that address the needs of the ‘junior’, ‘senior’ or whole school.
We then discuss pertinent classroom nuances with teachers, so as to incorporate these into our lessons also.

In 2025, Life Education Kāpiti/Horowhenua was a regional finalist (Kāpiti) in the Wellington Airport Regional Community Awards.
